Flying Monsters Summary:
Two-hundred-and-twenty-million years ago dinosaurs were beginning their
domination of Earth. But another group of reptiles was about to make an
extraordinary leap: Pterosaurs were taking control of the skies. The story of
how and why these mysterious creature took to the air is more fantastical
than any fiction–and one of the great mysteries in paleontology. Audiences
watch as Richard Attenborough describes pioneering scientific techniques
that reveal new details about pterosaurs, using pterosaur embryos to show
that they might have flown from birth and advances in imaging technology
and aerodynamics to describe how a creature the size of a giraffe could
possibly take to prehistoric skies.

2011 GTOAA International Convention

As promised last year in Wichita we had great weather on hand for all to enjoy at the Nationals a little hot for us in the Pacific Northwest at 80 but we managed to survive.

WoW! What a great event with lots of really awesome cars and all the great Pontiac enthusiast’s that attended. My thanks go out to all that attended for making the 32nd annual meet an overwhelming success. Many of you have sent thanks for a great time and show but the thanks really belong to all that attended. It was your show and what a great response you gave the GTO Club of Oregon.

Many of you enjoyed the tours to The Columbia Gorge and sternwheeler, Evergreen Air and Space museum, Mount Saint Helens, Jet boat trips, many special Portland Walks and of course Jim Wangers’ Birthday party.

If you were one of the 466 that enjoyed a great meal of fresh Pacific Northwest Salmon and Bacon wrapped steaks, you were also rewarded by the Godfather himself. Jim Wangers singing little GTO and moving like a rock star on stage. What a great treat that was it was. I believe 1 of 2 special performances that Jim has made for his 85th Birthday, and not to be repeated or so he says.

The crowd enjoyed a great fireworks display from the hotel overlooking the Mighty Columbia River. We were able to see for miles upriver and enjoy not only the Fort Vancouver display that lasted over 45 minutes But also all the private displays along the river community.

Drag races were a great draw, with 250 in attendance and a lot of fast and furious Pontiacs burning up the track. All that attended had a great time, including the ladies they were shuttled to the Tax free outlet mall. I am sure no one went home empty handed. Well maybe a few racers.

Wednesday after the popular vote and concours show lots of the attendees went to a weekly car show at Portland International Raceway Where we had special parking arranged for the GTO’s. Among the other 1,300 classic cars in attendance All enjoyed all the old iron even though some of it was formed into weird shapes like Ford, Mopar and Chevy.

Again Holly and I would like to thank all that helped out making this a really awesome event many of you stepped up and did a really great job making all of it work. We were only the faces and voices that were heard and seen. You made it happen Goat Herders.

A very special thanks to our sponsors for helping to make this a great event. Let it be known you are appreciated.
