About ‘The Herd’

Tiger Run 68 Modifieds

The first meeting of the Goat Herd GTO Club of Oregon was held in April 1984 at John Link Pontiac in Oregon City. The Herd was a dream brought to life by three very enthusiastic GTO owners, Duane Benting, Marc Neary, and Joe Meshishnek. There were 18 members and prospective members in attendance. The primary purpose of the club was to restore, preserve, and enjoy the legendary GTO.

The Herd is open to all GTO, LeMans, Tempest or Pontiac owners, and to anyone having an interest in appreciating or owning one of those great cars.

From our humble beginnings the Herd as grown to over 100 members. Our membership is virtually world wide. The Herd is a member of the GTO Association of America and was the first club to achieve 100% member participation in the GTOAA. The Herd has won the chapter of the year in the GTOAA an unprecedented three times! Since 1991 the Herd has been the sponsor of the GTOAA Northwest Regional Meet known as TIGER RUN. Participants in the event come from several states, and several provinces of Canada, and a future member from Great Britain. TIGER RUN lets the GTO lover live the total GTO experience!

The Red Line Times is the monthly newsletter that all members receive. Over the past few years, The Red Line Times has won the coveted “Golden Quill Award” for excellence. Another accomplishment we are very proud of.

The Herd has a monthly board meeting, and a monthly membership meeting. Both meetings are open to the members. The Herd also sponsors at least one club event each month. These events may be a day trip or an overnighter, and all club functions are family oriented. Attendance is encouraged as it is a great way to enjoy your cars and get to know fellow members better.

Monthly membership meetings are held at 7:30 P.M. the first Friday of the month at Larry’s Restaurant on S.E. 81st and King Road in Milwaukie, Ore. You are welcome to drop in and see what we are all about. Our membership application can be found on another page of this website.
